Story

John Paul aka Big John passed away suddenly in May 2025.

We miss him terribly not just as a colleague but as a dear friend.

John worked for Long Lane Deliveries for 15 years. He had a work ethic like no other.

A common theme when speaking to staff about John was how helpful he was. No matter what John had going on, if someone needed help or needed someone to speak to, he would stop what he was doing and help, even if that meant he’d get behind on what he was doing. He was inclusive of everyone, he treated everyone with respect and dignity and left no one out.

John always participated in the annual Christmas Jumper day in the Depot. We have lots of fond memories of John and it was suggested that this year, to remember him, we could raise money on this day for the Sepsis charity.

Sepsis is a life threatening condition that happens when the body's immune system has an extreme response to an infection. The body's reaction causes damage to its own tissues and organs and it can lead to shock, multiple organ failure and can result in death.

The symptoms to watch for sepsis are

- acting confused, slurred speech or not making sense

- blue, grey, pale or blotchy skin, lips or tongue

- a rash that does not fade when you roll a glass over it, the same as meningitis

- difficulty breathing, breathlessness or breathing very fast

Thank-you
