Running in Memory of My Dad – Supporting Asthma + Lung UK

Manchester Half Marathon 2024 · 13 October 2024 ·
On 16th August, my Dad sadly passed away from COPD at just 63 years old. To honor his memory and raise awareness of this devastating condition, I’m running my first ever half marathon—the Manchester Half Marathon in October.
I started running in May 2023, when my husband and I took on the Couch to 5K challenge. Since then, I’ve completed four 10K races, and now I’m pushing myself further than ever before with this half marathon.
COPD is a progressive lung disease that affects millions of people worldwide. In fact, 1 in 5 of us will develop a lung condition in our lifetime, and a new diagnosis is made every minute in the UK. I’m raising money for Asthma + Lung UK, the only UK charity fighting for everyone’s right to breathe freely.
Their work provides vital resources, such as a helpline staffed by nurses who offer potentially life-saving advice. For example, just £22 funds one call that could make a critical difference to someone with a lung condition.
I’m also giving people the option to donate to Ada, the National College for Digital Skills, where I’ve been fundraising as part of my current role. Donors can choose which cause to support—both are incredibly important to me.
I would be so grateful for any donations, whether to Asthma + Lung UK in memory of my dad, or to Ada. Every pound counts, and your support will help me run this race with purpose and whilst remembering my Dad.
Thank you for your generosity and support!
