The CJD Support Network offers advice, information and support for patients, carers and professionals involved in any form of suspected or confirmed CJD. We offer emotional and practical support; disseminate new information as research develops and offer advice for those who may be deemed at risk.

Story

Last year, £1,175 was raised for the CJD Support Network in memory of my Dad, Robert John O’Sullivan who passed away on February 29th 2024 from sporadic CJD.

CJD is an incredibly rare neurological disease affecting 1-2 people per million of the population each year with a poor prognosis and no cure, my dad lived a pretty simple life and was a proud grandad. At aged just 66, he started suffering from dizzy spells and imbalance. He had a clear MRI but we now know due to the rarity of the disease, it had been missed. Each week that went by he progressed further and further with different symptoms until he could not walk or talk properly. He was taken back to hospital, where stroke and Parkinson’s was ruled out, it finally took a specialist to diagnose him with CJD. Two days later we sadly lost him. Just two days to get our heads round what this disease was, I personally had never heard of it. It was heartbreaking enough losing him, but coming to terms with what this was and the speed of it was, and still is, indescribable. He was so brave.💛

The CJD Support charity have been an amazing support to families affected by this disease, to have a support network who understands and listens has meant so much. It is the only UK charity dedicated to all forms of CJD and offer emotional and practical support to affected families.

To continue honouring my dad, we have set up a fresh new page! Our first challenge will be taking part in a 10 mile tough mudder on Saturday 26th July.

The main and toughest event will be climbing the National 3 peaks in 24 hours 🏔️ starting at 6 am Saturday 4th October finishing 6 am Sunday 5th October.… travelling to Scotland to climb Ben Nevis, England to climb Scafell pike and finally Wales to climb Mount Snowdon - with hardly any sleep in between. All 3 climbs together involves a total walking distance of 23 miles.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, any small donation would be greatly appreciated…my dad will always be one in a million 💛
