I’m taking part in Starlight Hike for Sue Ryder this year - walking under the stars to help make sure more people get the expert care and support they deserve at the end of their life.

Sue Ryder believes how we die matters. Their nurses, doctors and bereavement specialists support people through terminal illness, death and grief - but too many still aren’t getting the care they need. That isn’t right, and I want to help change it.

Last year, Sue Ryder delivered more than 655,000 hours of expert care. Every second was made possible by people who chose to get involved.

In the UK most palliative and end of life services are funded by charities. There is a funding crisis and many hospices have had to reduce staffing recently due to high and unaffordable costs. This is going to leave people without appropriate support when they need it most.

As you know, I have stage 4 cancer, and I have already used some palliative care services. I know that one day I am likely to need more support, including increasing levels of pain management and end of life care.
