Story
Claire and Jennifer
In February 2014, Claire’s son Ross was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia at the age of 4, plunging her family into a harrowing and life-altering journey.
The unwavering support of the Children’s Cancer Unity Charity at Belfast Royal Children’s Hospital and the compassionate aid from Young Lives vs Cancer (formerly Clic Sargent) played a pivotal role in Ross’s triumphant declaration of being cancer-free in July 2017. Enduring three years of daily chemotherapy.
In March 2024 Jennifer and Claire signed up for their local running club's 'couch to 5k' program, igniting a newfound passion for running. As of September 2024, completing a 10km run stands as their furthest achievement. Now, driven by gratitude and determination, they are aspiring to push beyond their limits by training for and participating in the London Landmarks Half Marathon in April 2025. This endeavour serves as both a personal challenge and an opportunity to give back to Young Lives vs Cancer for their unwavering support during an immensely trying period for Claire and her family.
The diagnosis of cancer in a child not only instills fear but also brings forth overwhelming challenges for families - emotional, financial, and psychological. Young Lives vs Cancer stands as a beacon of strength for these families, providing vital support and guidance through the darkest times. However, with 12 more children receiving the devastating news of cancer each day, collective support is imperative to continue this crucial mission. Join them on this journey to face adversity head-on and stand in solidarity with those battling cancer.
