Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit the LHDR JustGiving page for Clara’s Surgery.

Clara, who was originally named Garifitza, arrived in March 2022 from Romania and was lucky enough to be taken in by her loving foster parent, Yvonne. After an initial evaluation, it was discovered that Clara was only around 11 months old and had a disability.

To better understand her disability, an X-ray was taken, and it revealed that she had possibly been in a road accident. The X-ray indicated that her right leg was severely damaged, and unfortunately, nothing could be done to save it. Hence, amputation was the only viable option. The situation was further complicated as her left leg was also in poor condition, and amputation may be required soon after.

After carefully considering all options and taking into account Clara's well-being and happiness in her new home with her pack mates, it was decided to hold off on the procedure and closely monitor her condition.

In the past two years, Clara's foster parent has gone above and beyond to ensure that she receives the best possible care and attention. Yvonne has lovingly provided her with a pram to keep up with the rest of the pack and a wheelchair for shorter walks, while inside the house, Clara has adapted to hopping around like a rabbit. Witnessing the effort and compassion put into making Clara's life comfortable and enjoyable is truly heartwarming. It's inspiring to see how far a little love and care can go in improving the life of a furry friend.

However, Yvonne recently noticed that Clara, her furry foster companion, was experiencing some discomfort due to her deformity, and this was causing her pain. Determined to help Clara, Yvonne sought out a new vet for a fresh perspective. The vet explained that Clara's deformity was most likely present from birth, and that surgery could provide her with much-needed relief. To confirm the diagnosis, Clara received another X-ray, which was carefully examined by a specialist orthopaedic surgeon. The surgeon confirmed that Clara was indeed born with the deformity, but there was hope for a pain-free life through treatment.

It breaks my heart to share that the cost of £8,000 for the first leg, which is Clara's worst leg, and approximately £7,000 (discount depending) for the second leg, which will be treated several months after the first, is a huge burden for the rescue. Sadly, the estimated total cost of £15,000 (discount depending) for the surgery is beyond our means. We understand how much Clara dreams of running with her pals, and we want to do everything we can to make that a reality. Therefore, we are reaching out to the loving dog community to help us raise the necessary funds.

It is heartwarming to share that we have received generous donations of items to sell, and volunteers have come forward to undertake a 20-mile kilt walk, amongst other amazing contributions. Yvonne is determined to do everything possible to raise the necessary funds for Clara's dream. Hence, we have created a JustGiving page to track the progress. Let's all come together and make Clara's dream a reality.
