Story

Wow. Wow. Wow.

Yes, here I go again. In 2025 I will reach the incredible milestone of being 10 years cancer free. 🎗

In order to mark this Major Milestone, which if I’m honest I never expected to see, I am undertaking a new challenge. Yes I am a glutton for punishment! However, this will be my last (I promise!).

My first big challenge was in 2016, when I was straight out of treatment, where I trekked the Great Wall of China

In 2018, I did 12 challenges over 12 months, this included

• Trekking the Inca Trail in Peru,

• Climbing Ben Nevis

and

• Hiking the Highlands, Glaciers and Volcanos of Iceland.

In 2022, I hiked for 5 days through the Jordanian Desert and hills to Petra. Then in 2023 I took on my first big cycling challenge from Vietnam to Cambodia.

In total, my personal fundraising comes to £8,614! I have also encouraged my partner, Tim, to take on some of the challenges with me and he has raised an additional £6,600 – that’s over £15,000 between us. It would be fantastic to add to that total.

This Final Challenge will find me cycling 415km over 5 days across rural Kenya. This includes cycling on African dirt roads which will be much tougher to cycle on. It will be strenuous. I will cross over two conservancies - The Olara Olek and the Mara North. We will conquer the Great Rift Valley. We will make our way round the Loita Hills in the Siana Conservancy. A big challenge on day 5 is the steep 250 m climb onto the great Mara North.

Yes, this will be hard work but what a high to finish on. I started these challenges when I came out of treatment. I am still receiving treatment and I am currently awaiting my next surgery date. But what an amazing 10 years it will be!!! Most of the funds raised have been donated by you. I can't thank you all enough. Cancer is now impacting 1 in 2 people and since my previous challenge I have lost my mum to cancer. She will be my drive going forward when it gets tough.

Life is for living, memories are for creating, travel is for the soul and love is for appreciating............

Thanks for supporting my fundraising. Macmillan gives people with cancer everything they’ve got. If you’re diagnosed, your worries are Macmillan’s worries. Macmillan’s doing whatever it takes. But without your help, Macmillan can’t support everyone who needs them.
