Story
In mid-July 2024 we are travelling to the Arctic Circle to swim in two events, in aid of Essex & Herts Air Ambulance.
The journey is epic just to get to our little wooden chalet in Lapland, our home for three days and so far north it will be 24 hour daylight. On the Saturday lunchtime we swim 2km in the Tornio River, from Sweden, across the national border with Finland, then back to Sweden. Then at midnight (in broad daylight) we swim 3km in the Tornio River, from Finland to Sweden – across the national border, across the Arctic Circle and across the time zone (so we could officially end the event before we have started it).
We are doing this for three reasons - we both absolutely love outdoor swimming; this is going to be one massively exciting adventure; and, we are also raising money for Essex & Herts Air Ambulance.
Clare has worked for EHAAT for 16 years and has seen the life-saving work that the charity does, 24/7, and met many patients and families who have experienced the service that EHAAT provides. Yes, it’s a charity and operational costs (updated as from April 2024) are £1,000,000 each month! So, any sponsorship you can give, will literally help save lives.
Many thanks everyone!
