Story
Ivan and I are taking the plunge — literally — in a cold-water swim for Abby’s Heroes! I say “taking part,” but Ivan might describe it as being gently coerced!
Now, while the photo shows wetsuits, we’ve decided to make things even more interesting by not wearing one. Picture it: November. A dark, icy lake. Would you swim in it without a wetsuit?
We’ll definitely be shivering and questioning our life choices, but it’s nothing compared to the challenges faced by the incredible children and families supported by Abby’s Heroes.
Every year, having discovered the news that their child has been diagnosed with cancer, families enter either the Piam Brown Ward for 0-16yr olds, or the TYA Teenage and Young Adults Ward 16-24yrs at UHS University Hospital Southampton.
The whole ethos of Abby's Heroes is to place our arm around the shoulders of these families and support them during this journey. We offer Financial Grants to help with the financial burden of having your child diagnosed, Practical support, Memory Making grants, Welfare Packs, Counselling service for the entire family, as well as two evening meals and a picnic lunch every week. Every single penny is vital to help Abby's Heroes provide these services.
