Four years ago I started volunteering with Action for Children as an Independent Visitor. Through this mentorship scheme volunteers are matched with a young person in full time care to create happy childhood memories and be a positive role model. I was matched with my young person when she was just 9 years old, and for the past four years we've met every month for theatre visits, cinema trips, art adventures, lunches, dinners and countless car sing alongs! Seeing her grow, in not just age but in confidence and independence, is by far the most rewarding thing I've ever been a part of.

I've witnessed first hand how Action for Children makes a real difference to the lives of children and young people who deserve it most. The Independent Visitor scheme is only made possible through the generous support of others ... which is why in spring 2026 I'll be running the Hackney Half Marathon for Action for Children!

Trust me when I say I am NOT a natural runner so this is going to be quite the training challenge, but I'm ready to take it on!
