We provide music therapy for people of all ages with disabilities to improve their quality of life and wellbeing, and teach children and young people with disabilities to play a musical instrument and perform in concerts. Our work improves communication, confidence, connection and mental wellbeing.

Story

The work of the Otakar Kraus Music Trust was very close to Joy's heart.

She saw at first hand the impact that the power of music can have in the case of her grandson Alex. At the age of 4 he started Music Therapy sessions with the Trust, and a few years afterwards joined their OK Music School. He has gained great confidence from both learning music and from his many performances on drums and piano in their summer and winter concerts. He now loves being part of the OK Music School band where he enjoys meeting up with his friends and making music. Joy loved attending the concerts and seeing Alex take such pride in his music making journey.

She was delighted that her other grandchildren, Imogen and Sebastian, enjoyed music and played at the OKMT concerts. She was so pleased that her love of music had passed on to her daughters, Kathryn and Clare, and now on to her grandchildren.

The mission of the Trust is to ensure that every child and adult has access to affordable music therapy in the community, helping to improve their well-being and quality of life through creative and participatory music making. They are dedicated to making a difference to some of society’s most vulnerable people, by helping them to communicate, concentrate, gain confidence, make friends, and take part with pride in community activities.
