Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I was on a train, drafting this message, when I lost my internet connection. I was thinking about all the people I know who have been suffered from, been treated for, been affected by or sadly died because of prostate cancer. With one in eight men developing prostate cancer, it's turning into a lot of people I care about. And the more I've spoken to others, I've realised just how many people, and their loved ones, this cancer is hurting.
Back to the train. I was on my way to a conference. One of the speakers was Kevin Webber. I'd never heard of Kevin but it turns out that he is living with inoperable, effectively terminal prostate cancer. Since he was diagnosed in 2014, and against all the odds, Kevin has run over 18,000 miles and raised over £1m for charity. Wow.
I WON'T be running 18,000 miles but I will be running one mile, every single day, throughout March. Bad planning meant I missed my original slot of February (three fewer runs). This might not sound too hard but with a lot of work travel and other commitments it's going to take some organising. All I know is, however challenging I find it, it's going to be a lot easier than the pain, physical and emotional, that I've watched people I care about go through because of prostate cancer.
Thank you for reading this far - and thank you for any donations you would like to add to this fundraiser. Every pound added will go to Prostate Cancer UK. And as my day job involves helping all kinds of charities make their money go further, please do #TickTheBox for Gift Aid if you are a UK taxpayer, as this will mean the UK Government adds 25% to your donation at no cost to you.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
