Clare's fundraiser for The Listening Place

Clare Parkinson is raising money for The Listening Place

Royal Parks Half Marathon 2025 · 12 October 2025 · Start fundraising for this event

On Sunday 12 October 2025 30 runners are taking on the Royal Parks Half to raise a combined £18,000 for The Listening Place, enough to fully fund our ongoing, face-to-face support for 60 people who feel life is no longer worth living.

Story

I am shamelessly asking for your help to raise money for The Listening Place, a wonderful charity that supports people who are finding their current life is not worth living.

It means a huge amount to me to be one of the listening volunteers at The Listening Place because I know that simply being able to talk face-to-face to someone who will listen without judgement and in complete confidence can help those with suicidal thoughts feel they are not alone and, with support, may find a path out of despair.

At TLP the visitor sees the same volunteer every two weeks and for at least three months, so a supportive rapport can develop.

If, with your help, I reach the target of £600, it will fully fund our ongoing support for two visitors for as long as it takes to reduce their suicidal feelings.

My task in all this is to take part in the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 12 October. With your support as strong motivation I shall get on with getting fit and ready to take on the challenge (as a speed walk for me, rather than a speedy run).

Thank you,

Clare

About TLP

In the UK we lose someone to suicide every 75 minutes and it is the leading cause of death in men under the age of 50 and in all adults under 35. Despite this, effective support is hard to find.

The Listening Place (TLP) meets this need by providing free, face-to-face, ongoing support to those who feel suicidal. And they know that their support works, with visitors reporting a highly-significant reduction in how suicidal they feel after 3 and 6 months of support.
