Clarissa's fundraiser for ME Research UK

Clarissa Brind is raising money for ME Research UK

Cardiff Half Marathon 2025 · 5 October 2025 ·

ME Research UK exists solely to fund high quality biomedical studies into ME/CFS. Our funded research suggests that in excess of 400,000 people in the UK have ME/CFS but it is neither well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised. We invest in the best research we can globally.

Story

As a family, we are running in the Cardiff Half Marathon on October 5, 2025, in support of ME Research UK. We, Mark, Charlie, David, Clarissa and Jamie, are running to fund vital research that aims to find a cure and treatment options that can restore a normal life for our sister/auntie who suffers with moderate Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) while our niece/cousin is severe. The journey feels like climbing a mountain; navigating the healthcare system for help and support is an uphill battle, and the lack of understanding about this illness within the medical community is disheartening.

Jennifer Brea once said, '...doctors do not treat us and science does not study us. How could a disease this common and this devastating have been forgotten by medicine?' This quote resonates deeply with us as we advocate for those affected by ME/CFS. Only through dedicated biomedical research can we uncover the causes of this condition, improve diagnosis and treatment options, and ultimately find a cure. This is why supporting ME Research UK is so crucial.

Since 2000, ME Research UK has awarded 64 full grants and 5 PhD-level awards, investing over £3.5 million into research efforts. However, as research costs continue to rise, they face significant challenges in securing funding. That’s where you come in! We kindly ask for your support in helping us reach our fundraising target of £1,500. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those battling ME.
