This year I wanted to give myself my biggest challenge yet to raise money in memory of my baby girl Evie Isobel Currie who passed away at 4 days old in February 2018.

This year I am booked to compete in the following (October being the big one).

February - Blast Innocent half marathon - 21km

March - Edinburgh Kilomathon - 13km

May - Portobello to North Berwick - 30km

September - Mens 10km and Loch Ness Marathon - 42km

October - Glasgow 2 Edinburgh Ultra - 92km

November - Supernova Forth Road Bridge - 5km

I will be raising money for Held in Our Hearts. Held in Our Hearts are a local charity who provide baby loss counselling and support to families. They’ve been a massive help from the beginning and I’d like to give them something back by raising money for them again during these hard times for charities. The Dad's group have had a massive part to play in my grieving and I want to make sure moving forward the charity can continue to offer the support they already give to mothers and fathers.

Below is a little story about Evie 💝

In February 2018, we went to the hospital as we couldn’t feel baby kicking so we wanted to get checked out. After being checked we were told we would be having the baby that day which was 6th February 2018 due to problems with our daughters heartbeat. This was well before her due date of 22nd April 2018. It was all just a shock and I couldn’t believe it was happening.

Evie was born on 6th February 2018 weighing 2lb 14oz. I heard a little cry and was amazed to see such a good head of dark hair. Evie looked amazing and I got to cut the cord before she was introduced to her mummy. I was absolutely over the moon and so in love. Once Evie had met her mummy she was taken to the neonatal unit as she needed help with her breathing.

We were taken to the neonatal unit shortly after where I set up camp as I had no intentions of leaving Evie or her mummy. Evie was in her incubator with so many tubes attached to help her breathe , feed and help get blood around her body as there wasn’t enough getting through. We weren’t able to hold her but we would hope that day would come soon. Over the next few days we got to change her nappy , read to her and get lots of photos and eventually help feed three or four times.

Evie managed to open both of her eyes for the first time on 9th February 2018 which is the picture at the top of the page. This was a very special moment as this was when we were talking to her. We were on the 4th day of our little girl being here and we still weren’t allowed to hold her, it was heart breaking but we knew the staff were doing everything they could to help.

Sadly on 10th February 2018 after a doctor had came to see Evie we were informed she had a bleed on the brain which was causing her to have mini seizures and why she wasn’t improving with all the medication they were providing her with. Later this day we were provided with a private room as this was our last few hours with our baby girl as the staff had done everything they possibly could to keep Evie with us.

When we got to the private room we sat on the bed not knowing what to do we were heartbroken. This was actually happening. The staff brought Evie along with all the machines attached to her and told us we could now hold her. It took 4 days but we eventually got the cuddles from her we had been waiting on. We read her a book and spoke to her before she went to sleep in my arms.

The staff at Royal Infirmary neonatal unit are absolutely amazing and we know they gave absolutely everything to Evie.

Each day is a new day and some are a lot harder than others. We will always be grieving for our little girl!

Since losing Evie I have been blessed with a son and a daughter who carries Evie has her middle name.
