Clerkenwheels Adventure is raising money for United in Design Charitable Trust

Clerkenwheels · 15 May 2026

United in Design, was founded by Sophie Ashby and Alexandria Dauley to address the lack of diversity in the UK Interior Design industry. Specifically, the lack of representation from the black, Asian, ethnic minority and low socio-economic communities. Through partnerships with established educational programmes, industry professionals and sponsors, the intention is to provide a clear road map for increased diversity in all sectors of the industry —design studios, makers, suppliers to individuals and magazines. However, this movement will be driven by those businesses and people who are willing to lead by example, pledging their support and making a commitment to take positive action.

Story

Clerkenwheels is the idea of interior designer, educator and podcaster, Jonathan Forster and creative director, Tom Bourne.

The event will see the pair cycle their way from University of Plymouth all the way to Clerkenwell, arriving for the start of interior design’s biggest UK festival.

Covering some 260 miles over five days, the pair will stop off to podcast with designers, manufacturers and industry personalities discussing the importance of diversity and inclusivity for the future of interior design.

The ride will raise funds for the United in Design (UiD) Education & Outreach programme, a grassroots initiative to encourage young people from underrepresented communities and diverse socio-economic backgrounds into the industry through knowledge, experience and career planning.
