The North West Pre-hospital Critical Care Charity are a group of volunteers who have one common goal and that is to help those in need. Our volunteer responders are called by the ambulance service to attend serious accidents or incidents in which our extended skills or expertise are needed. Our geographical area of work includes Cheshire, Manchester, Merseyside and Lancashire. Our responders include time-served Doctors with a range of backgrounds including General Practice, Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia and Surgery or Paramedics working as Critical Care Paramedics or Advanced Paramedics. We respond to incidents at the request of the North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust.

Story

We have decided to take part in another fundraiser this year for our favourite charity - The North West Pre-Hospital Critical Care Charity. Last year we had an amazing day when we 'cycled a marathon' in the sunshine and raised almost £3000!

The charity is made up of specialist volunteer Doctors, Paramedics and Nurses who support the ambulance and rescue services, bringing advanced medical care to the communities of Manchester Cheshire, Merseyside, Lancashire and further afield if needed.

The experienced responders can help with advanced analgesia, prehospital anaesthesia, surgical skills and a whole lot of experience!

The responders are automatically notified at the time of a 999 call to the ambulance service if a serious incident is in their vicinity or they might also get allocated to an incident if there is a crew request for additional support or skills.

Given the serious and often tragic nature of the incidents they attend, those patients and families they serve are often unaware that they have received care from volunteers, responding in their own time.

In 2024, the NWPCCC responded to 384 incidents across the region. They receive no statutory funding and rely solely upon donations.

Oscar, Alfie, Rory and their families have recently started indoor climbing and have decided to take on an epic challenge to climb the equivalent of Everest - 8848m!

On Saturday 23rd August 2025, we will be getting our climbing shoes and harnesses on at Big Depot Climbing Centre, South Manchester who have kindly offered to host our crazy challenge!
