Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

In lieu of flowers, we would be very grateful for donations to the Barbara Bus Fund, a small local charity that has meant so much to our family.

Clive was a much-loved husband to Jo, dad to Amy, Lucy and Ben and brother to Viv, Elaine and Martin. He spent 30 years in the police and cared deeply about others. After his brain injury in 2010, the Barbara Bus Fund made it possible for him to still be there for so many important family moments.

The Barbara Bus Fund provides wheelchair accessible vehicles for people who need them. It was created in 1968 after Barbara Werndly, who became paralysed from polio, saw first-hand how difficult it was for wheelchair users to access suitable transport and get out with family and friends. Today, the charity supports families across the UK. There is no charge for using the vehicles and families are simply asked to donate when they can.

We used the charity on countless occasions, from school sports matches, plays, concerts and speech days, to family occasions, visits to the London Zoo, the RAF Museum (Clive’s favourite) and even his goddaughter’s wedding. It also meant we could take him on multiple family holidays to North Devon, including trips down to the beach with his dog Maxi, which would have been almost impossible without the Barbara Bus Fund. We had even planned to use the charity again in June, so Clive could be at his daughter’s wedding in Devon. Without it, so many of these moments would likely not have been possible, and it made our family’s life that little bit easier by allowing Clive to be part of occasions that meant so much to us all.

Thank you so much for any donation you are able to make in Clive’s memory. If you would like to leave a message with your favourite memory of Clive when you donate, please do, as it would be lovely for us and others to read.

With love,

Jo, Amy, Lucy and Ben
