Hi everyone,

On Saturday 8th August we (Patrick and Paul and our cousin Michael) will be taking on the Lurig Challenge Run to remember our brother Cathal McNaughton who tragically lost his life to mental health struggles on June 27th this year.

The Lurig Challenge Run is an off-road mountain race held annually in Cushendall, County Antrim, as a highlight of the Heart of the Glens Festival. The route features a punishing 1073-foot (327 metre) ascent up Lurigethan Mountain and a steep, iconic downhill descent where runners often slide down on their backsides!

Cathal was a proud Glens of Antrim man and a born naturalist with a vast knowledge of local flora and fauna. He was happiest outdoors pursuing his lifelong passions of fishing and zoology. He treasured the beauty of the countryside and dedicated much of his time to preserving and enjoying the natural world he loved so dearly.

Taking on the Lurig run, held in the Cushendall countryside, is a great way to honour Cathal's memory and to raise awareness and much needed funds for AWARE, a charity that provides vital support for people experiencing mental health challenges.

Our family has tragically lost a beloved son, brother and uncle to his own mental health struggles. No family should have to experience the heartbreak of losing someone they love, and we hope that by sharing his story, we can help to raise awareness of the importance of good mental health and encourage others to reach out for support when they need it.

Every donation, no matter how small, will help AWARE continue their incredible work, providing support, education, and hope to those who are struggling.

AWARE is the depression charity for Northern Ireland working for people with depression and bipolar disorder.

AWARE has an established network of 24 support groups in rural and urban areas across the country, which are run by trained volunteers. Support groups welcome people with depression & bipolar disorder as well as carers for people with the illness.
