Story

Help Coastal Rovers and “Betty” Conquer the Rhino Charge – May 2025!

Coastal Rovers is gearing up for the legendary Rhino Charge in May 2025, with our trusty 1974 three-door Range Rover Classic, Betty.

The Rhino Charge is one of the toughest off-road challenges in the world, where competitors must navigate Kenya’s wildest terrains and overcome obstacles head-on. It’s a true test of endurance, design, and skill as teams aim to cover the shortest distance between checkpoints. It’s also one of the biggest fundraising events for conservation in the world. Last year alone, the event raised an impressive £1.78 million (KES 325 million), and over the years, it has raised a total of £12.4 million (KES 1.9 billion) to support Kenya’s vital conservation projects.

While most teams build vehicles just for this event, Betty is primarily our off-road recovery truck for Coastal Rovers. For the Rhino Charge, we’ll make her challenge ready by removing the crane and fitting a specialty crew cab, all while keeping her true to her recovery roots. Competing with Betty isn’t just about completing the challenge – it’s about proving we can rescue anyone, anywhere, no matter how tough the terrain.

We are aiming to raise £2,000 to enter the Classic Charge but aspire to raise £4,500 so we can compete in the Unmodified Full Charge. Every penny raised will help us reach our goal and take on the full challenge in Betty!

We’re raising this for Rhino Ark, and 100% of the donations from this fundraiser will go directly to Rhino Ark’s conservation efforts. These funds will support vital projects like the Aberdare Electric Fence, protecting both wildlife and communities from human-wildlife conflict.

How You Can Help

Your support will help us meet our pledge, allowing us to compete in the Rhino Charge and contribute to preserving Kenya’s incredible ecosystems. Every donation helps, no matter the size, in both supporting our team and protecting Kenya’s wildlife.

Thank you for backing Coastal Rovers, Betty, and the conservation mission of Rhino Ark!
