Big Nacoa Walk 2024 · 4 May 2024 ·

1 in 5 children in the UK are affected by their parents' alcohol problems. They are often frightened and isolated, with no one to turn to for help. Nacoa responds by providing a free, confidential telephone, 1-2-1 chat and email helpline.

Story

Nacoa (The National Association for Children of Alcoholics) is a charity founded in 1990 to provide help and support for everyone affected by a parent’s drinking. Did you know 1 in 5 people in the UK are affected by a parent's drinking? #URNotAlone

This is a cause we feel very passionately about after losing our Dad/Paul to alcoholism in November 2022.

We have dealt with very difficult times as a family due to our Dad/Paul's addiction: as with alcoholism comes a family secret. An illness that just isn't discussed outside of the immediate family. It isn't until after his passing that we have felt able to speak about this and now we want to raise awareness to help reduce the stigma around this topic and to raise money for a cause to support other Children of Alcoholics (COA's).

Catherine, Christina & Amelia are taking on the Big NACOA walk on 4th May 2024, walking alongside 31 other COA's/families impacted by alcohol. It's a 21 mile trek through the Manifold Valley and Dovedale in the Peak District. We know our Dad/Paul would be proud of us for raising awareness to support other families in a similar position to us, who are impacted by this terrible illness. Thanks in advance for any donations :)
