Story
I’ve always said I would never run a marathon… so naturally, I’m sticking to that and skipping it entirely. Instead, on 4th July, I’ll be taking on something slightly more sensible (apparently): a 50km Ultra Marathon across the Peak District, alongside my wonderful — and only mildly unimpressed — husband.
This is completely uncharted territory for both of us. We have never run anywhere near this distance and and have never attempted trail running before. Hills, unpredictable terrain, long miles… what could possibly go wrong?
We’re doing this to raise funds for Elderly Care patients at Mid Yorkshire Hospitals, helping to provide essential resources that make a real, meaningful difference to patient experience — particularly for those living with dementia, confusion, or requiring enhanced care.
The funds raised will go towards items that support stimulation, engagement, and comfort, such as:
Speakers for music and familiar sounds, Games and activity resources, Doll therapy and sensory items and other tools that promote calm, reassurance, and connection.
These resources have proven benefits, including reduced agitation, fewer falls, and a more positive and dignified experience for patients during their hospital stay.
We’re also fundraising to improve care for palliative patients and their families, including the purchase of an additional foldable bed, allowing loved ones to rest and stay close during incredibly difficult times.
To help boost the fundraising total, we’ll also be running a prize draw/raffle (date to be confirmed) with exciting prizes to be won, with all proceeds contributing directly to this cause.
Every donation — big or small — will help turn sore legs, tired feet, and questionable decision-making into something genuinely impactful for patients and families who need it most. Thank you so much for your support 💙
