This June, David and Hannah will once again be taking part in the Blenheim Palace Triathlon to raise money for Thinking of Oscar.

This year, however, feels especially significant because for the very first time our daughter Holly, now 15, will also be taking part alongside us.

Holly was just three and a half years old when her brother Oscar died in 2014. Over the past 12 years, Thinking of Oscar has become a huge part of our family’s life and Holly has grown up seeing the incredible community that has formed around the charity and the impact it has had for children and families.

Since the first Blenheim Palace Triathlon fundraiser, over 200 people have taken part on behalf of Thinking of Oscar, raising more than £400,000 through this event alone.

Those funds have helped support projects designed to improve the experiences of children and families in hospital care, particularly through innovation, technology and practical support that sits above and beyond standard NHS provision.

Projects have included vein finder technology to reduce distress during blood tests and cannula insertions, distraction technologies within hospitals, simulation and training programmes for clinicians, and digital tools to improve communication and understanding for families.

We are also currently working on a number of exciting new projects, both to help raise further awareness and funding for Thinking of Oscar, but most importantly to continue improving the experiences and support available to children and families whilst in hospital care.

The Blenheim Palace Triathlon is a favourite event of ours. We spent a lot of time there, especially when the kids where younger and it’s where we both completed our first triathlons for the charity.

The support, camaraderie and encouragement from the Thinking of Oscar squad each year is incredible and we are hugely grateful to everyone who continues to take part, and cheer us round over the course of the weekend.

Every donation genuinely makes a difference and helps us continue supporting projects that improve the lives and experiences of children and families.
