To help raise awareness of meningitis B (MenB), colleagues and friends from Coleg Gwent are coming together to take on the incredible Brecon Beacons Horseshoe challenge in memory of Megan Draper.

In October 2025, we tragically lost our colleague’s beloved 18-year-old daughter, Megan Draper, to MenB. Since then, we’ve learned how many young people remain unprotected — with anyone born before 2015 not routinely vaccinated against MenB, and students at increased risk, particularly those in shared accommodation.

Inspired by Meg’s memory, our team is stepping out of their comfort zones to take on this demanding mountain challenge to honour her and help raise vital awareness. The 10-mile, 7-hour adventure will see us summit the iconic peaks of Cribyn, Pen y Fan and Corn Du. We feel incredibly proud to be doing this together as Team Coleg Gwent, supporting such an important cause.

All funds raised will go to Meningitis Now to support their vital work raising awareness, campaigning for wider MenB vaccination for 15–24 year olds, and supporting families affected by meningitis.

Meningitis Now is the first meningitis patient group in the world, founders of the meningitis movement and the only charity dedicated to fighting meningitis in the UK. Since 1986 they have invested over £12.7m in early stage research.

The money I raise will help fund vital awareness of the signs and symptoms of the disease (it's not just the glass test!), while supporting further research into meningitis and helping provide everything from counselling to adaptive equipment for those whose lives have been changed forever by meningitis.
