Story
Many of you will know Colin Coles, our much-loved minibus driver and part of our Grounds Team. This Saturday, Colin is taking part in Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, a global awareness campaign that raises funds and awareness for charities supporting survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, and gender-based violence.
The idea behind the event is simple but powerful. There is an old saying that you cannot truly understand someone's experience until you have "walked a mile in their shoes". Participants take part in a symbolic walk to encourage empathy, start important conversations, and show support for survivors.
To support the cause, Colin will be walking from Woking to Kingfield (around 2 miles downhill!) wearing high heels, a skirt, and a wig. While the outfit may raise a smile, the message behind the event is incredibly important.
Although the walk itself lasts only a short time, the impact of domestic abuse and violence can affect individuals and families for a lifetime. Every day, people experience abuse behind closed doors, often feeling isolated, frightened, and unsure where to turn for help.
By taking part in this challenge, Colin is helping to raise both awareness and vital funds so that organisations can continue their important work supporting survivors, educating communities, and helping to prevent abuse from happening in the first place.
Please help us support Colin in this fantastic challenge. Any donation, no matter how small, will make a real difference and be hugely appreciated.
Thank you for your generosity and support.
