Story
On Oct 2021 during the Covid peak I had been suffering from a very bad cold. It was so bad I actually had a day off work which was unusual for me. That evening I was feeling slightly better and anticipated a recovery for work next day. In the middle of the night I awoke with what I can only describe as a vice tightening on the back of my head, I then started to be violently ill.
Thinking this may have been Covid related I called NHS for guidance and was admitted via Covid protocol to hospital
That’s the last I remember until 2 days later when I was speaking to a consultant neurologist in a different hospital telling me that I had had a brain haemorrhage. He then went on to explain how incredibly lucky I was in that the bleed had healed itself and even more importantly I had healed without a need for any surgery
I still had a recuperation period ahead of me, with 2 months of rest completed I returned back to work and I am now full recovered
However others are not so lucky as I and I would like to help fund raise to help the charity Headway
Headway is the UK-wide charity that works to improve life after brain injury by providing vital support and information services
Brain injury can challenge every aspect of your life – walking, talking, thinking and feeling – and the losses can be severe and permanent. It can mean losing both the life you once lived and the person you once were.
We all think 'it will never happen to me', but every year around 350,000 people are admitted to hospital with an acquired brain injury.
That's one every 90 seconds.
This April I will be starting a multi year Portuguese ‘Camino de Santiago’ (The Way of Saint James) from 22 April for 7 days.
During that period, I will walk more than 120 kms starting from Lagos reaching Aljezur (Rota Vicentina).
In these challenging financial times if you are able to help please donate to this page to assist Headway in the work that they do
Thank You!
