We share our lives with cats. They bring happiness to millions of us every day. Yet too many cats don’t get the care and kindness they deserve. At Cats Protection we stand up for every cat to make life better for cats and the people who care for them.

Story

Cats Protection help more cats than any other organisation and we want to help millions more. We are a dedicated community of passionate employees, volunteers, supporters and partners, working together to make life better for millions of cats and the people who care for them.

We are the voice of cats in society and we speak up for their protection.

We’re working towards a society where every cat is treated with kindness and respect.

Making a better life for cats, because life is better with cats.

I’m raising funds for the Cats Protection branch serving Bury St Edmunds, Stowmarket, and the surrounding villages in Suffolk. Our mission is to improve the welfare of cats in our community by addressing the growing challenges of abandonment, overpopulation, and financial hardship among cat owners.

This year, Cats Protection research highlights a 34% rise in cat abandonment nationally, a trend mirrored in our region, where the demand for our help has surged while finding new homes for unwanted cats has become increasingly difficult.

Our work involves rescuing and caring for unwanted cats, providing advice, and offering financial assistance to owners in need. At the heart of our efforts is a commitment to neutering, the key to reducing overpopulation and improving welfare standards for all cats.

To support this goal, we provide discount vouchers for neutering to individuals on low incomes or benefits. On top of this, twice a year we run month-long neutering campaigns in our catchment area, offering free ‘snipping and chipping’ to those who need it. These campaigns typically see us neuter up to 60 cats. We also carry out ‘Trap, Neuter, Return’ programmes to manage and reduce feral cat colonies in our community.

However, rising veterinary costs and a drop in donations are threatening the continuation of our vital work. Every donation helps secure the future of our branch, ensuring we can continue to care for cats in need and support the people who love them.
