Story
My mother sadly passed away in 2016 after living with Dementia for around 5 years..... It is such a cruel and destructive disease and unlike many other critical illnesses, there is currently no cure.....Mum suffered a range of effects from confusion & loss of memory through to loss of inhibitions and control over bodily functions.
This manifested itself in situations such as attacking our father through frustration and trying to leave the house to go shopping at 2 am only partially clothed....It's certainly not the image people have of just getting a little forgetful.
This is both cruel to the sufferers and those who care and watch their loved ones slowly deteriorate - It's absolutely heart-breaking when your own mother no longer knows who you are.....Or thinks in her mind that her husband (Dad) has died when he is alive and well at home....Her mind had tricked her into this and watching the tears roll down her cheeks you try to convince her he is alive and well.....
It is so cruel I am not ashamed to say it was a relief that she was no longer suffering when she was finally at pease and passed away....
