As many of you know, I was diagnosed early 2025 with Metastatic Prostrate Cancer, which basically means it had already spread to some of my bones, so surgery is not a feasible option. I was totally symptom free, and it was only discovered, after I asked the nurse to add a PSA blood test, at a routine "Well Man" check up, at my gp's. Obviously receiving the news from the consultant was devastating, but I immediately adopted the attitude that I was going to live with it, rather than die from it. I will be eternally grateful for the love and support I have received from family and friends over the last year, particularly Bev, who is having to go through the emotions with me, rather than just help me go through them alone.

Fortunately the cancer seems to be responding to my treatment, and to date is being "managed", although it will never be cured. The treatment is hormone based, which can give various side effects, although to date I have only suffered from hot flushes and a slight increase in fatigue.

This is my 3rd year of entering the Head of the Dart paddleboard challenge, which is appoximately 15km from Dartmouth to Totnes, up the River Dart. I can't deny that previous years have been tiring, but I suspect that with the effect of medication this year could well be the toughest yet.

I would urge any man, to try and get themselves tested, via a simple psa blood test, as the sooner that prostrate cancer is detected, the easier it is to treat, and whilst in my case it was too late for surgery, caught early enough, it can be cured.
