Story
Andy & Myself are cycling down to Maldon in Essex with Vaughnie driving the support van, to raise money for Alzheimers Research UK.
The reason we’ve chosen the challenge of riding 243 miles over 2 days to Maldon is because that is where my Dad lived before he sadly passed away from Vascular Dementia, recently.
The poem in the above picture that was read out at Dad’s funeral very eloquently expresses how dementia affects those it afflicts.
Vaughnie’s Grandma is currently suffering with dementia.
Andy’s Father-in-law Ray and Mother-in-law Norma both suffered with dementia before they passed away.
Two of my best friends Kurtis and Mick lost their mothers to Dementia.
Jacky, my wife's Mum, has just been diagnosed with Alzheimers/Dementia. As has my Uncle Gerald
So many of us seem to know someone who suffers from dementia or are affected by it, having to support those suffering from it.
You lose your loved one twice, first when the person you’ve known and loved is taken over by dementia and again when they finally pass away, often after several years of torment in between.
Dementia is such a cruel and horrible disease with no known cure at the moment.
This is why we are raising money for Alzheimers Research UK to help them to hopefully one day find a cure. Your donations will be greatly appreciated and go a long way to supporting this worthy cause.
