Story
Kieren and I will be participating in the Liechtenstein Alpin Marathon.
We both started our running journeys towards the end of 2024. For me I was returning to regular running after a 7 year hiatus because I had elevated blood pressure bordering high blood pressure. Kieren for his mental health.
My intentions were only to run 5k, starting with the once weekly Parkruns. Through a friend I joined the Harmonious Society at christmas and continued regular 5k runs with them.
Within the first couple of months, things changed, I was constantly feeling inspired by everyone at the Harmonious Society; this person running a 10k, that person a half marathon, 30+ entered the Valencia marathon, those 2 doing an ultra!
So what's stopping me?
March comes by quickly and I sign up for the Ipswich half marathon as well as a marathon relay of which my segment is 10k.
They both go well.
In the meantime Kieren had to put running on hold due to a double hernia operation. In his time off we decided the next step was booking a marathon, this would encourage him to get straight back into it and for me to continue with my progress.
Why East Anglia's Children's Hospices?
I rewind back nearly 14 years to the reason I choose this charity.
My wife and I had lost our second child due to complications at birth and e.a.c.h were there for us immediately. In the few short days we had with our son Kai, e.a.c.h helped create some beautiful memories and supplied a memory box to store all the wonderful items including clay prints, a foot print which my wife later had tattooed on her.
Following his death e.a.c.h supplied us with a comfortable stay at their treehouse charity so we could focus on funeral arrangements.
We continued to get invited to activity days which helped with grieving.
In the early days following their support we organised a charity day to help raise funds for other families, and we have continued to support them but for the first time in nearly 10 years we want to give back a little more.
So please support our attempt at what less than 1% of the world population achieve yearly - completing a marathon (on a mountain)
16/11/25 update
Today we had our first mountain running experience on snowdon. 10 mile (16km) route up and down Llanberis Path completing it in 2 hours 17 minutes.
01/12/2025 update
Today e.a.c.h. have kindly stepped up to help enter us into the Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge. We will be participating in the 34km stretch from Corfe castle near Wareham, and finishing in Weymouth. This section has 1110m of elevation.
This challenge falls only 4 weeks before our big event, and will be perfect for our training needs.
