Story
Laura Andres, a long-standing staff member at College and County was looking forward to a smooth pregnancy. However, when her daughter Anna arrived prematurely at just 27 weeks, her world was shaken. During this challenging time, the support of Ronald McDonald House was essential in providing care and stability for both Laura and Anna. Laura along with a supporting team of Colleagues from College and County will be Hiking Pen y Fan in Wales in the hope to raise funds to give back to the charity which helped Laura in her time of need.
Below, Laura shares her story:
“Three months. That’s how long we had to spend in the hospital with our precious baby girl. It was one of the most difficult times of our lives, emotionally, physically, and mentally. But amid all the uncertainty, the kindness, support, and warmth of the Ronald McDonald House and its incredible staff eased the weight.
They gave us more than just a place to stay, they gave us a home away from home. A place where we could rest, recharge, and find comfort in the little moments, without the extra burden of logistics or financial worries. Their generosity allowed us to focus on what mattered most: being there for our baby.
Sometimes, it’s hard to know if charities truly live up to their mission, but having experienced their kindness first hand, I can say with all my heart that Ronald McDonald House is an extraordinary organisation. They are a beacon of hope for families in crisis, and their work is nothing short of life changing.
This is why I’m so passionate about giving back and why I hope you’ll join us in this cause, so they can continue to provide incredible support to families who need it most.
Together, we can help keep their doors open and their hearts full, so no family must face difficult times alone.”
Ronald McDonald House Charities UK provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation to families with children having treatment in hospital.
Our Houses offer much more than just a place to stay; they provide family activities, peer support, respite, and many other services. This means that families can be by their child’s bedside in a matter of moments, whilst maintaining a degree of normal life with reduced emotional and financial strain.
We help over 6,000 families each year and now, more than ever, we need your support. Thank you.
