Alun Austin and Team is raising money for Velindre Cancer Centre

Colly4Cancer25 · 14 September 2025

Velindre Cancer Services provides treatment, care and support to patients and their families. Money raised by our fundraisers allows us to support projects over and above those provided by the NHS including ground breaking research, specialist equipment, nurses and staff training.

Story

Cancer is a journey that touches us all, either directly or indirectly. It is a reality that one in every two people will face this challenge at some point in their lives. In 2024 alone, over 6,500 patients were referred to Velindre Cancer Centre, affectionately known as the 'Hospital of Hope.' Your generous donations are crucial in ensuring that Velindre continues to be the leading provider of radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and specialised anti-cancer treatments in Wales.

Every contribution you make to Colly4Cancer25 helps fund vital projects that enhance patient experiences and outcomes. For instance, your support allows for the funding of Clinical Nurse Specialist Roles, which provide compassionate one-to-one care and emotional support to patients navigating their treatment journeys. Additionally, your donations play a pivotal role in advancing Research and Innovation at Velindre. By collaborating with national and international research centres, we can improve treatment options through groundbreaking research and clinical trials.

Moreover, contributions help facilitate Complementary Therapies and Psychology services that assist patients in managing anxiety and distress associated with their treatments. There is a focus on supporting children affected by cancer through initiatives like memory boxes and educational resources designed to help them understand their loved ones' diagnoses.

In addition to supporting Velindre Cancer Centre, we are proud to advocate for partner charities like Marie Curie, Macmillan Cancer Support and Maggie’s.

With one in four people in the UK lacking access to essential end-of-life care, Marie Curie has been a beacon of hope for 77 years, providing free expert palliative care both at home and in hospices.

Macmillan Cancer Support also plays a vital role by offering specialist nurses who provide compassionate support across hospitals and communities. These dedicated professionals help manage symptoms of advanced cancer while guiding families through available resources.

Lastly, Maggie's Cardiff offers free professional emotional support right within the grounds of Velindre Cancer Centre. Their welcoming environment provides tailored individual support alongside practical advice and workshops aimed at nurturing both mental health and well-being.

We invite you to join us on this journey by contributing towards our initial target amount of £5,000. Your support can make an incredible difference in the lives of those affected by cancer. Together, we can ensure that no one faces this battle alone.
