Lewy body dementia is the second most common cause of age-related dementia, affecting around 130,000 people in the UK. We raise awareness of the disease, provide information to patients and carers, and fund research so that in future it can be more easily diagnosed and treated.

Story

Rather than flowers, we are asking that you pay tribute to Dad in the form of a donation for the Lewy Body Society.

Dad suffered with Lewy Body Disease. Lewy Bodies are proteins which accumulate in the brain, causing a progressive brain disease with a host of physical, mental and cognitive impacts, from hallucinations and anxiety to stiff limbs and difficulty swallowing. They also affect language - vocabulary recall as well as the ability to speak - which was a particularly cruel symptom for such a funny, thoughtful raconteur as Conor O'Doherty.

Dad bore his affliction with good humour and unbelievable patience, and was an inspiration to all around him. But it was undoubtedly a gruelling ordeal, and a devastating one for his loved ones. Your donations will go towards defeating this dreadful disease in the long-term, and, in the interim, improving awareness and education around it.

The Lewy Body Society was founded in 2006 to support research into Lewy body dementia and to raise awareness of the disease. They aim to educate the public, the medical professions and those in decision-making positions about the disease, which unfortunately is still not well known.
