Following the succes of Romantic Brass in 2025 the cooperation band will appear in concert at Sherbrooke Mosspark Parish Church on Saturday February 14th at 7.30pm. The band will play a beautiful range of music most of which has been selected and transcribed by John Wallace CBE. There are no ticket sales for this event but we ask if you could dig deep and donate to the Beatson Cancer Charity - a charity that John championed before he sadly passed away in January 2026.
John Wallace was a Scottish-born virtuoso trumpeter; he accompanied Kiri te Kanawa in Handel’s Let the Bright Seraphim at the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer in 1981 in front of a global TV audience of 750 million. He also established an adventurous brass ensemble called the Wallace Collection, and composed ceremonial fanfares for the Scottish Parliament. In 2002 he became principal of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland - formerly the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama - which described him as a "legend in the music world". He remained there until his retirement in 2014. John was made a CBE in 2011 and awarded a Queen's Medal for Music in 2021 for being an "outstanding individual casting a major positive influence on the musical life of the nation". After his retirement Wallace became convenor of the Music Education Partnership Group which pushed for free instrumental tuition across the country.
All the work done by the Beatson is made possible by supporters. It is their generousity which allows Beatson Cancer Charity to deliver an innovatve and patient focussed approach to cancer care and changes the lives of those affetced by the disease every day.
