Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Clive Carrington-Wood, a retired naval officer, and his partner Dr Stephanie Jones, a University Professor, have been asked to assist a Canadian friend, by moving his Honda Goldwing motorcycle over 3,000 miles from Point Roberts, Washington, USA (very near Vancouver in Canada) to Barr De Navidad in southern Mexico.

Foreseeing an epic journey ahead of him, another motorcyclist enthusiast and ex-Navy chum suggested that Clive might use the opportunity to raise funds for a worthy cause, RNBT can to mind. This worthy charity provides financial assistance and support to Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel, both serving and retired as well as their families in times of need. The charity provides care homes for elderly veterans and their families, including dementia care. Having lost his mother after a long battle with dementia, this is a cause that is close to Clive’s heart.

A survivor of HMS SHEFFIELD in the Falklands campaign, Clive served in many hotspots throughout his career including Bosnia and Sierra Leone, during their civil wars, and with the US Army in Baghdad in 2006 after the second Gulf War. He is therefore well aware of the care needed for both serving sailors and marines as well as ex-servicemen who have served their country but find either themselves or their families in need as they progress through life.

The epic journey that Clive and Stephanie will undertake will require riding 300 to 350 miles per day over 12 days, with few opportunities for rest on the way. They hope to enjoy stunning scenery and pass through famous locations, such as the Golden Gate Bridge, whilst also being aware of the potential risk involved in passing through Mexico’s desert regions as well as potential bandit country.
