At Cornwall Cat Centre, we are currently helping with a heartbreaking multi-cat crisis that has spread beyond one property and into the surrounding neighbourhood.

What likely began with a small number of unneutered owned cats quickly escalated, with stray cats joining the group and numbers growing out of control. Concerned members of the local community contacted us after witnessing the cats’ worsening condition, and with permission from the property owners, our team stepped in to help.

On our first visit, we rescued 18 cats and kittens in desperate need of care. Among them were:

• An adult female cat

• A mother cat with her litter of 7 tiny kittens

• 3 adolescent cats

• A further litter of 6 older kittens

We estimate there could still be around 40 cats in total needing help, and our rescue team will continue returning to the property over the coming weeks.

Since arriving at the centre, many of the kittens and young cats have shown severe symptoms of cat flu. Our dedicated team have been working around the clock to provide intensive care, including:

🐾 Eye cleansing and medicated eye drops twice daily

🐾 Antibiotic treatments

🐾 Daily pain relief medication

🐾 Strict hygiene and PPE routines to prevent spread of infection

🐾 Daily weighing and health monitoring

🐾 Supplement feeding for vulnerable kittens

Tragically, some of the older kittens have suffered irreversible eye damage due to untreated infection and will require eye removal surgery.

Despite everything they have endured, these cats are now finally safe, warm and receiving the love and veterinary care they desperately need. But caring for such a large number of sick cats and kittens comes at a huge cost.
