The Cotswold Explorer walks the Cotswold Way for Sepsis Research

Robin Shuckburgh is raising money for Sepsis Research FEAT

Walking the Cotswold Way

Sepsis Research FEAT funds vital research into sepsis and helps to raise awareness of sepsis. Sepsis is a life-threatening condition caused by the body overreacting to infection. It kills around 50,000 people in the UK each year. Please support us today & help us in our mission to #stopsepsisnow.

Story

In 2023, Robin Shuckburgh, presenter of the Cotswold Explorer YouTube Channel, had a very near miss with Sepsis.

Spending weeks in intensive care with it really looking like he might not make it, Robin has since made a miraculous recovery, thanks to the amazing efforts of the Oxford hospitals.

Many people unfortunate enough to come into contact with Sepsis at Robin's age fail to survive, let alone come out unscathed - and Robin considers himself extremely lucky to have made such a recovery.

With the work the Cotswold Explorer does, filming and documenting the history of towns and villages across the Cotswolds, it seemed fitting to undertake a challenge that both utilises our platform and gives back in some way.

The Challenge

Robin Shuckburgh and Ross Arrowsmith (the man behind the camera) have therefore decided to walk all 105 miles of the Cotswold Way, from Chipping Campden to Bath filming and documenting the journey all in aid of Sepsis Research. This will be no easy feat for Robin, 77, who has had a long road to recovery from Sepsis.

We will complete an average of ten miles per week over a period of ten weeks, releasing episodes of our walk as we go. The final episode will release on Saturday 13th September, which is World Sepsis Day and coincidentally the anniversary of the Cotswold Explorer channel itself.

Along the way we will interview other Sepsis survivors, some medical experts as well as a couple of other guests, as we capture the beauty and history of places along the Cotswold Way, and tell the story of just how life changing Sepsis can be.

Join us from 12th July

The first episode of our Cotswold Way Walk will release on 12th July, and premiere every Saturday until 13th September. Each episode will include beautiful views of the Cotswolds, the history of nearby places, appropriate poems, conversations with survivors and lots more to enjoy - so please do join us for this special ten week journey.

Who are we raising money for?

Sepsis Research FEAT is a registered charity (SC049399) and are the UK’s only sepsis research charity.

Sepsis accounts for around 50,000 deaths in the UK every year - that's more than breast and bowel cancer combined.

We don't understand enough about sepsis and the biological processes that can lead to serious illness or even death. That is why we urgently need to increase funding:

- to raise awareness of sepsis

- for research: to understand the processes that lead to sepsis, to design effective treatments for it & to help save lives.
