Story
On the 17th December 2025, Mr. Barry Cottam passed away, at his home in Otley. Barry was 85 and left a wife Annette, daughters Alison and Joanne, step daughters Sandie and Gail, grand children, Rebecca, Jack, Jordan, Ross, Yasmin and great grand children, Jackson and Freddie, along with many friends and ex work colleagues.
Barry had a triple heart bypass and valve replacement procedure in 2018, which was a great success, however, his health rapidly deteriorated during the last few weeks of his life in 2025.
During his last few days at home, he was cared for by the community district, and cardio nurses, followed by the wonderful palliative care team, provided by the Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice in Leeds.
The care he received was a credit to the hospice and members of the family are hoping to raise much needed funds for the charity, by carrying out the Yorkshire 3 peaks challenge on SUNDAY 12th APRIL 2026.
Barry was a very keen photographer and runner spending many hours of his life photographing the 3 peaks, as well as walking and even running them. His last wishes was to have his ashes scattered at the top of Pen-y-Ghent.
Jack, Jordan, Ross, Haiden (Rebecca's husband) and Carl, (Gail's husband) will be carrying Barry's ashes with them along the route. They will be starting at the foot of Pen-y-Ghent and will take on Ingleborough, Whernside and then Pen-y-Ghent where they will say farewell to Barry. This is one of the most difficult routes to take. They will then meet members of the family, back at the foot of the Peak, where they started, (Some 24 miles later) hopefully for a short celebration and a well earned pint!
They have no specific target in mind apart from the personal pride in completing the challenge (Hopefully within the official 12 hour target) and in doing so, realising Barry's wishes. They have pledged £100 for each peak that they complete, as a team.
"Team Barry" would be most grateful for any additional donations no matter how small and hope to raise as much money as possible, for this very worthy cause.
In anticipation of your generosity and support. Let's hope the weather is kind to them.
With thanks,
"TEAM BARRY"
