Story

30 Years Strong – Thanks to British Orthopaedic Association research

Over 30 years ago, I was one of the early patients to undergo ACL reconstruction using my own tendon—a pioneering procedure at the time. Thanks to the incredible skill and vision of the team at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, my knee remains as stable today as it was before the injury.

Now, the same hospital is performing the Oxford half knee replacements on my father in law this week as day patient—an astonishing leap in medical progress. I’m living proof of how research, innovation, and dedicated care can transform lives.

Please support the continued work of this remarkable institution so more people can benefit from life-changing treatment.

On Sunday 12th October, I will be running the Royal Parks Half Marathon to support this Charity.

My goal is to raise £400 to contribute towards ground breaking research that can change lives. I invite you to join me in this effort—your support can make a real difference in helping us keep people mobile.

Every contribution to this cause will support vital research that can help not only them but countless others in both the short and long term.

Every day, millions of individuals in the UK face the challenges of living with musculoskeletal conditions. With over 20 million people affected, this issue touches nearly a third of our population. It's important to recognize that these conditions do not discriminate; they impact people of all ages, including children and young adults, with 11 percent of those affected being under 35 years old.

This is where Joint Action, the orthopaedic research appeal of The British Orthopaedic Association, steps in. We are dedicated to raising vital funds for research into innovative orthopaedic treatments that can significantly enhance the quality of life for those suffering from arthritis, bone cancer, and other debilitating conditions. Our mission is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to lead a mobile and fulfilling life, even after experiencing major trauma.
