On June 26, St Ives RFC senior Players (L-R) Josh Taylor, Harry Brown, Craig Cheetham and Jack Hickman (Team Bulls) will be hitting the road in aid of the wonderful Cambridgeshire-based charity Little Miracles.

Our aim – to drive from St Ives to Pisa and back in just four days, via the Stelvio pass and hopefully catch a glimpse of the leaning tower – but of far greater importance, to raise money for a charity that has a very significant meaning for one of our club's biggest sponsors and supporters, Nick Jones from Dream Clean Ltd (St Ives).

The event is the inaugural Pistons2Places banger rally. Over 35 teams are taking part, all in cars that cost less than £1,000 – with the hope that all of them make it home.

We're doing the run in a 27-year old Peugeot 306 with a diesel engine, no air con and a peaky power output of 61bhp. The car has spent its entire life in Chatteris and St Ives and has never seen a big hill, so what could possibly go wrong (apart from letting Harry take charge of the stereo)?

We'll also be spending the weekend dressed exactly as we are in the picture – though we'll perhaps not risk driving the Stelvio Pass in rugby boots. We do have more than one pair of socks each, though. If we raise over £1,500, we might take our shirts off. If we raise £2,500, we'll put them back on again – so there's your incentive.

As for the good cause? Little Miracles is a charity that supports families of children with additional needs, disabilities and life-limiting conditions.

Its wonderful staff and volunteers provide a non-judgemental environment where they use a holistic approach to support the needs of the whole family.

They specialise in providing advice, guidance, support, activities, training and safe places to any family that has a child with an additional need, disability or life-limiting condition, including providing support before they are diagnosed and from birth to 25.

Or in other words, they're bloody wonderful people who do a magical job, and they deserve our support.

Times are tough for everyone right now – but if you can chip in, no matter how small an amount, then every single penny goes to the charity.
