Kayak for SPACE

Craig Hooper is raising money for SPACE

Kayak Challange · 5 June 2026

The aim of SPACE is to provide a local, fun, safe and accessible environment in which children with additional needs can play whilst supporting the whole family. In February 2020 we opened a Fully accessible centre with a sensory room & soft play so that we can support more families.

Story

The team and I took on a three-day, kayak endurance challenge to raise funds for SPACE (Supporting Parents and Children Everywhere), a charity that provides vital support to families of neurodivergent children.

We kayaked approximately 50 miles along the River Dee from Llangollen to Chester. Paddling the full distance over three days was a physically demanding challenge requiring preparation, resilience and teamwork — but it felt like a fitting way to support a cause that means so much to us.

My son has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and like many families, we have been navigating the learning curve that comes with understanding, advocating for, and supporting him in the best way we can. Organisations like SPACE make a real difference, offering guidance, community and practical support to parents who often feel overwhelmed or unsure where to turn.

This challenge was our way of giving something back. We set ourselves a fundraising target, but we also hoped to go beyond that and raise as much as possible to support the incredible work SPACE does.

Every donation, no matter how small, went directly to SPACE and helped them continue supporting families across the region.

Thank you to everyone who supported both the challenge and such an important cause.
