💙 About My Dad - 'The Chief' 💙
My dad is.... and always has been, my hero. He was the kind of bloke who’d be running around all day at work (as a UPS delivery man), come home in the evenings and play with my brother and I in the garden, or build forts, or take us out on our bikes (See the pic with my cool helmet and double denim!)... and.... at the weekend he'd cut the grass and hedges for our older neighbours...Fit, strong, sharp, full of energy... and a genuine barrel of laughs.
But life threw him (and us) a curveball: Multiple Sclerosis (MS).

🔎 So What is MS? 🔎
Well .. IMAGINE LIVING IN A BODY THAT DOESNT DO WHAT YOU WANT.. and slowly gets worse and worse...
Some people get very tired but can live a nearly normal life, some people have relapses and lose function in their arms and legs, but then gain back strength over time & in my dads case... it slowly “turns off his body”. Things like walking, raising your arms, using a knife and fork... or everyday tasks become impossible.

💔 How It’s Affected Him (and Us) 💔
Over the last decade or so...it’s changed everything. He’s gone from being the fittest person I know - to needing carers every day to help him wash, eat, and get around..
It’s hard. For him. For my Mumsy... For all of us.
But despite it all, he volunteers at the MS Information & Therapy Centre in Gloucestershire — now called the Charcot Therapy Center - a place that’s helped not just him, but my Mum too. They offer oxygen therapy, support for newly diagnosed people, and, most importantly, a place where people understand.
💪 What I’m Doing About It 💪
If MS takes your movement, I figured I’d fight back with a physical challenge... the Ironman 70.3.
That’s:
🏊 - 1.9km Swim
🚴 - 90km Bike
🏃 - Followed by a Half Marathon
All in one go — its around 7 hours of pushing myself.. (and i despise long distance events)

🤕 .. Take 2 .. 🤕
This isn't the first time i have attempted this either, i tried it last year and completely stacked it when i came off my bike... dislocated my shoulder, shattered my collarbone — spent two months in recovery. But I’m going again. Because this matters.

Back in 2018, I did a Spartan Beast Race and thanks to amazing people like you, we raised £2,600. I’m not expecting to match that — but if you can spare anything, even the cost of a coffee, it goes a long way to help Rae and the team at the MS Centre keep doing what they do.
