Faye's (5) attempt to climb Ben Nevis in Winter with a wild camp if winds permits.

Craig Moffat is raising money for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity

Faye's winter attempt to climb Ben Nevis, with a wild camp if weather permits

We help the babies, children and young people treated at Scotland's largest children's hospital, the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow. We fund medical equipment, research, play programmes and family support services to ensure that our young patients receive the best possible care and experience.

Story

"My name is Faye and I'm 5. My cousin Owen and friend Lucy are both alive because of the hospital and charity. I want to raise pennies to help buy things to help Children who aren't well. I have done other fundraisers including climbing my first Munro last winter with out help from my Daddy but this will be my hardest adventure. My Daddy says if we don't give up we can do anything so I wont give up. Please help me raise pennies for the boys and girls who need help"

I'm Craig, Faye's Dad and I'm so proud of Faye for wanting to support such a great charity and also she now has an understanding of the difference we can all make.

We will be waiting for a weather window to complete this challenge so we haven't committed to a date yet. If the weather allows we also are aiming to camp on Ben Nevis over night under the stars. Make no mistake this will be a huge challenge for Faye so I hope you can support her by raising awareness or sparing any pennies you may have. I personally look at Owen and Lucy enjoying life to its fullest and it gives me a great depth of feeling knowing if Faye or Cameron were very unwell there is support there for them to get better.

Its best to hear how great they are through the words of Lucy's mum:

Here's Lucy's story,

After 5 rounds of IVF and 3 miscarriages, we finally fell pregnant with our miracle baby. And that is exactly what Lucy is.

Hearing our longed for baby's heart beat for the first time was the best moment in our life so far! As long as there was a heartbeat then our baby was okay! Or so we naively thought! We found out at 23 weeks that Lucy's heart hadn't developed properly. We were devastated but we knew we had to find out as much as we could about her condition and prepare ourselves for the future.

Lucy was born in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow. Shortly after birth she was taken to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Glasgow Children's Hospital where her main diagnosis of Double Inlet Left Ventricle was made (in basic terms, she only had half a heart)

At 18 weeks old Lucy underwent her first open heart surgery at the same hospital. The 17th March 2016 was the longest, hardest day of our lives as we waited patiently for news from the Surgeon. The relief we felt when she arrived back in recovery was quite overwhelming and seeing her with all the tubes and machines was scary but at least she had survived and her surgery had gone as well as could be expected.

Lucy now continues to thrive. She attends the Children's Hospital for regular reviews and had her open heart Fontan surgery during lockdown.

The staff at the hospital are nothing short of amazing. From the day we found out about Lucy's condition to now, everyone we have met has helped us to be confident in caring for Lucy and we honestly couldn't trust them more!

We have so much to thank them for and words are not enough but hopefully we can help raise a little bit for their charity to help them to continue to support our warrior children and their families.
