Story
Since its founding in 1964, the Blackburn Unit has worked with thousands of young adults, providing them with unique adventures. From 1990 to 1994, Blackburn Sea Cadet Corps (SCC) played a crucial role in my teenage years, shaping the person I am today. It instilled life skills such as discipline, leadership, and collaboration, and gave me the best memories and lifelong friendships.
The Blackburn Sea Cadets are part of the Sea Cadets, a national youth charity that engages 14,000 young people at 400 units across the UK. Locally working with youth aged 10 to 18, offering them a different kind of adventure. This includes offshore experiences aboard sea vessels at heavily subsidised costs.
I was privileged to be a part of this organisation.
On 28th September 2024, there will be a reunion for myself and other cadets from approximately 30 years ago. In September, I will be raising funds for Blackburn Sea Cadets by participating in a rowing event.
The sea cadet unit has organised a rowing competition where reuniting cadets will compete in timed four-person boat rowing over multiple laps of a course on Fishmoor Reservoir in Blackburn.
