Story

Running Every Mile for Buckinghamshire Families in Crisis

In April 2026, I will be taking on the huge challenge of running the London Landmarks Half Marathon for a special cause. Thank you so much in advance for donating whatever you can, it really will make a massive difference.

This year, I’m taking on the London Landmarks Half Marathon for Citizens Advice Bucks, our local charity that provides free, expert advice to people across Buckinghamshire. Many people don’t realise that Citizens Advice Bucks is a local charity, not funded by central government. Every £ donated stays local and helps keep the four offices in Aylesbury, Buckingham, High Wycombe, and Chesham open and ready to support people who need them most.

I’m running for the families in Buckinghamshire who are struggling to keep a roof over their heads, put food on the table, and keep their children safe and secure. Across our county, more and more families are facing growing financial and emotional pressure, and when life unravels, many turn to their local Citizens Advice office as the first and only place where they feel heard, supported, and guided. As a police officer who deals with vulnerable people day in and day out, I have seen first-hand the help that these offices can provide and have often referred people directly to the Citizens Advice Charity when they need that help.

The charity relies on over 100 dedicated volunteers who give their time and expertise to provide free confidential advice on everything from debt and benefits to housing, emergency support, and mental health guidance. These volunteers are the heart of the charity, helping families regain stability when they need it most.

Sarah* is one of the people Citizens Advice Bucks has helped. When she arrived at her local office, she had run out of food, electricity, and money, was behind on rent, and had not eaten for two days so her children would not know how desperate things had become. She said: “I just wanted the kids to feel like things were normal.” Thanks to one of their volunteer advisers, Sarah received emergency support, her finances were stabilised, her eviction was prevented, and her family could feel secure again. Stories like hers happen all year-round, all-over Buckinghamshire.

In other counties, local Citizens Advice offices are closing because they have not been able to raise enough funds. That is why my run and fundraising are so essential. Every £ raised stays local, helping families in crisis across Buckinghamshire through caring volunteers giving their time and expert advice. I’m running to make sure these offices stay open, continuing to be a place for our communities and ready to support families, single parents, young people, and older residents across our county. Your donation will provide warmth, food, security, and peace of mind, and change lives like Sarah’s every single day. Thank you for supporting me and for standing with local families across Buckinghamshire.
