Story
I’m dusting off the gear once again to take part in a two-day, eight-team charity tournament in aid of Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice. After seven years away from the ice, I broke my vow in 2024 to return, and I’ll be doing the same again this year.
On the ice, I’ll be doing all I can to make a difference for the team. Off the ice, I’m committed to raising much-needed funds to support the incredible work of Bluebell Wood.
It only took a small insight into the charity seven years ago to convince me to get involved. Bluebell Wood supports families during the most difficult times of their lives, giving tired mums and dads some much-needed respite, caring for brothers and sisters who feel angry, lonely, or confused, and standing with families during the last moments of their child’s life.
Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice provides care for babies, children, and young people with life-limiting conditions, supporting hundreds of families both in the hospice and in their own homes. Their services are tailored to each family’s needs, from overnight care, music therapy, counselling, and sibling support groups to home visits and much more.
It costs around £6.5 million each year to keep the doors open and provide these vital services to families across South Yorkshire and beyond. Only 16% of this comes from statutory funding, with the rest made possible through fundraising efforts like this tournament.
I’m proud to be part of this, and I hope to make a difference both on the ice and for the families who rely on Bluebell Wood.
