This October, CrossFit Vastus will be taking our biggest team yet to Battle Cancer London, with 13 teams (and counting!) stepping onto the competition floor to raise money for Cancer Research UK. On 17th October, our teams of four will take on a gruelling fitness challenge, battling through nine high-intensity stations across Endurance, Burn and Power zones. Every rep, every metre and every minute of effort will be for a cause that means so much to our community.

This year we are raising funds for Cancer Research UK. In 2014, CrossFit Vastus owner Ruth’s sister was diagnosed with breast cancer at just 34 years old. Through chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery, she continued to exercise whenever she could, finding strength not only physically, but mentally too. In 2015, she was given the incredible news that she was all clear. Inspired by her own experience, she went on to become a personal trainer and qualified Cancer Rehabilitation Specialist, dedicating her career to helping others navigate treatment and recovery through exercise.

Her story is a reminder of the life-changing impact cancer research can have. Every breakthrough starts with funding, and every donation helps bring hope to individuals and families facing a cancer diagnosis.

For the past five years, Battle Cancer has brought our community together to challenge ourselves for something bigger than fitness. At Vastus, we know the power of strength, resilience and community. We see it every day. This October, our athletes will be digging deep, suffering together and giving everything they have on the competition floor. If our efforts can help fund life-changing research and support future cancer survivors, then every painful rep will be worth it.
