Story

RAISING FUNDS FOR THE REQUEST FUND - TO HELP YOUNG PEOPLE CARRY OUT POLAR EXPEDITIONS AND RESEARCH

Following on from the four previous annual treasure Quests this time we are trying to track down no less than the Crown Jewels stolen from the Tower of London...

__________________________________________________________________

The date was Thursday 1st February 1973. The Crown Jewels were apparently stolen and were hidden somewhere secret in the city of London. The thief obviously had to hide them and then lay low for a good while. The story was kept very hush, hush at the time. To avoid complete humiliation and embarrassment replicas, rapidly produced at considerable expense, were put in place before the public were aware of exactly what had occurred. The elaborate copies have convinced experts for years!

Now after 50 years have gone by, and no longer covered by the Official Secrets Act, the Metropolitan Police have just released the following statement direct from Scotland Yard: “The jewels were clearly stolen by a master criminal who somehow removed them without setting off the state-of-the-art alarm systems and by penetrating the secure vault. All we know for sure is that the jewels must be still in the London area as we have been on a strict lockdown ever since the theft to ensure that they couldn’t leave London. We welcome any theories from members of the renowned Silver Treasure Questers club as to their whereabouts after all these years. We are offering a large cash reward and a miniature replica set of the Crown Jewels to the Quester who can locate the originals.”

Armed with nothing but a vintage ‘Guide to the 28 Metropolitan boroughs of London’, an tattered old 1970s A-Z and of course, these days the whole of the internet – are you up to the challenge of tracking down the REAL Crown Jewels?

To participate you just need to donate a minimum donation of £5 however if you choose to donate anonymously but do want to take part in the Quest then be sure to drop an email to alan.noake@kentscouts.org.uk so you are registered to receive the daily clues.

Every cryptic clue involves an anagram or two and your guide Beefeater Manager Sam Orno will always let you know when to look out for those.

The REAL Crown Jewels are hidden at a secret location somewhere in London and your Quest is to find them by piecing together the jigsaw of all 28 clues.

The daily clues will be issued at 6pm and you need to submit your first attempt at the seven answers each week by 11pm on each Wednesday.

There will then be a weekly prize for the first person to get the most correct answers that week. But you can all press on into the next week regardless.

Then every 24 hours you are welcome to resubmit fresh attempts for any answers you got wrong previously.

The more correct answers you have by the end of the month will make it easier to solve the final location of the Crown Jewels on or after the 1st March 2024.

Confused at any time about how it all works? Just drop me an email on alan.noake@kentscouts.org.uk and I will do all I can to help clarify things for you.

Your Quest formally begins at 6pm on Thursday 1st February 2024 and will end on 1st March 2024.

GOOD LUCK!

P.S. Please encourage others to take part – they can join the Quest anytime in February and catch up the days they have missed.

P.P.S. If you do solve the final location early please only share the answer with me privately so others can still enjoy the challenge!
