Story
Caldicot Town Team is proud to be working in partnership with the Legend on the Bench charity and the Spurs Supporters Club to bring a powerful symbol of hope to our town — a dedicated bench that serves as a quiet reminder that someone is always listening. This initiative is more than just installing a bench — it’s about creating a visible, permanent message that no one has to struggle alone.
Every year, thousands of lives are lost to suicide in the UK. According to the Office for National Statistics, more than 5,000 people died by suicide in 2022 alone — that’s an average of 13 people every single day. Many more attempt suicide or live with suicidal thoughts in silence, often feeling that they have no one to turn to. In recent years, we’ve seen a heartbreaking rise in suicides, especially among men under the age of 50, who are statistically at the highest risk. These are not just numbers — these are sons, daughters, friends, and neighbours. And too many families, including those in Caldicot, know the pain of losing someone to suicide.
This bench will stand as a statement and a sanctuary — a place where someone can sit, reflect, and find the courage to open up. It will include a plaque with a simple yet powerful message: “Someone is always listening.” It’s a small gesture with the potential for a huge impact. Sometimes, a quiet place and the right words are enough to start a conversation — or save a life.
We are raising funds to make this vision a reality in Caldicot. Whether you’ve personally been affected by mental health struggles or simply want to support a kinder, more connected community, your donation will help us offer a message of hope, right in the heart of our town.
